HR in the Clouds: Its inevitable

Duane Thompson, National Practice Director for Oracle at Presence of IT, recently participated in a joint discussion with Oracle and Deloitte on the business impacts facing HR and how cloud based solutions could drive Transformation.

They exposed the business issues facing Australian HR leaders and revealed how the best run HR teams have been able to strategically align HR to the business imperatives. Their discussion identified how cloud based technologies are a catalyst to expedite the transformation of HR.

The dialogue is razor sharp and compelling. Sample the quotes below for a taste of what they had to say:

  • On today's business issues:'Talent is the number one and likely the most prolific for companies in Australia with most organisations wondering where they are going to find their next worker.'
  • 'The issue, typically, is not the absence of a compelling business case, it's the credibility of HR itself.'
  • 'A lot of HR teams are still constrained by legacy systems or finance which are not keeping pace or seen as adding value.'

On the role of HR:

  • 'There is a level of frustration that HR is bogged down in transactional work and therefore its ability to add strategic value is limited'
  • 'The challenge for most HR organisations is really to ensure there is a very tight coupling between HR service delivery and the business strategy'

And on The Cloud:

  • 'Cloud equals opportunity for any organisation, ... the huge trade up is that the organisation remains focused on its customers instead of itself'
  • 'The Cloud really gives flexibility.....what you can do with the cloud is start to incrementally improve your processes'
  • 'While the cloud is not the answer in itself, it is certainly an important pillar to improving the way organisations work and making them more innovative.'
